Heart Wash

As I approached the heart carved in the sand

My body tensed from the thunder of the break

But the starry night took me gently by the hand

And guided me to where I was meant to take my stake

She told me softly that if I could stay deaf to fear’s siren lure

She would show me how to lift the gate

And so I sat with a timid heart on her glassy shore

Not knowing what danger could await

Deep in her midnight blue I could see that I belonged

So on that night I chose to trust that no harm was in my fate

And with every note of her ceaseless booming song

My heart’s own thunder it did create

Once our union had taken place

I watched the break expand beyond my sight

And listened to the waves carrying our quiet grace

Beyond the city lights beneath the starry night
